What To Expect
Preparing for Your First Wound Care Visit
If you are preparing for your first wound care visit to our office, you may be wondering what to expect. Our process includes an examination, a treatment plan, and maintenance. These are the three components that help your wound heal as effectively and safely as possible. Below provides more detail on what you can expect at each stage.
The Examination
The first thing we will do when you come in for your initial wound care visit is perform a thorough examination. We will want to determine not only the kind of wound you have suffered but also address the underlying causes of the issue you are experiencing. Once the testing is done, we will then provide you with a treatment program tailored to your specific needs. All of our treatments and techniques are the most advanced available.
Treatment Begins
When the time comes to begin your wound care treatment, you can expect to visit us on a regular basis. We will also provide you with clear, detailed instructions on caring for the wound at home between your visits to our office. Follow these directions carefully, as doing so will greatly reduce the chances of any complications. It is very important to remember that you are the most important part of your healing process. Keeping appointments and following directions are critical to attaining a positive healing outcome.

Wound Management
There are several things you can do on your own to lower your risk of developing any sort of infection. Eating a healthy diet will be extremely important, as will getting enough rest. Take all medications as directed by your doctor and make sure you come back for all scheduled follow-up appointments. If you notice any swelling or redness around the wound, experience any pain, or see an increased amount of wound drainage (especially if the fluid is cloudy or the wound drains pus), contact us immediately. You should also call if you notice a foul odor or strange smell coming from the wound or experience any weakness, chills, or a fever.
Chronic wounds can exact a toll far beyond the pain and discomfort of the wound itself.
